Ann Curry

Ann Curry is a photojournalist, journalist and author who has been covering war zones for the past 45 years. Her research focuses on human suffering as well as disasters. Curry's mom is Japanese and her father is another American Naval Sailor. Her father was with his mother in Japan as a stationed in Japan following World War II. Her father was a member of the military, and she had to move around often. Curry was a high school graduate in Ashland Oregon. When she graduated from University of Oregon, Curry obtained a bachelor's degree in journalism in 1978. She is likely to have created an empathic way of communicating because of her experiences with different cultures throughout her life. Ashland was where she eventually completed high school. She began a career that would lead to a lucrative career as an intern at broadcasting station KTVL Channel 10 Medford. It was her first time as a female news correspondent at this station when she was just 22. In Portland in Oregon, she was appointed anchor as well as a reporter for KGW the NBC affiliate. After four years, she was appointed reporter for KCBS TV which is located in Los Angeles. Through her tenure of six years with the channel she received the award of two Emmy Awards.
